New Mexico is blessed with a network of professional Small Business Development Centers and visiting one is the place to begin if you are starting a business.  To begin planning a new business download and read the small business guide, then contact a Small Business Development Center near you.

The Economic Development Department’s Community, Business, and Rural Development Team works closely with local economic developers to provide a variety of assistance for New Mexico businesses. Whether you are looking for help with loans, labor training, technical and regulatory assistance, or site selection, these representatives can guide you through the process. If you wish to register and license your new business in New Mexico, begin by contacting the Taxation and Revenue Department for a “CRS” number.  You may also need a license from the Regulation and Licensing Department, depending on the type of business you operate.  If you incorporate you must register with the Public Regulation Commission.  This is explained in more detail in the small business guide.

You will also need a license from the city or county where you will do business.
